A Groom’s Story: Reflecting on Our Wedding at Bridgewood

It’s official! We are finally able to call each other ‘husband and wife’. Now, we can take this opportunity to sit back and reflect on the time we spent planning our special day at Bridgewood.

So, how did it go? Are we happy with the day? Would we do it all over again?

Let’s start at the beginning….

My wife (then fiance) and I had a few things that were important to us when deciding on where we wanted to get married. She had hopes of being outside under sunshine and blue skies, but we all know that weather isn’t always the most cooperative quality of Mother Nature. That said, we knew we needed to have a backup plan in case weather forced us indoors. Not only did Bridgewood have an indoor backup plan in place for us, they made picking their location a no-brainer from the beginning. Check out my earlier blog on picking a venue here.

19Planning our wedding was surprisingly easy. We came into this wanting simplicity. We weren’t looking for an over-the-top ceremony that meant putting too much effort into little details that we and our guests would soon forget anyway. We wanted the efforts we put into our wedding to be towards the things that meant the most to us. Myranda helped us piece together a very simple, yet very well put together plan and took it upon herself to make it happen. She helped us decide on table arrangements, decorations. lighting and so many other little things. Even with the minimal planning we did do as far as decor, Myranda was able to take all of our ideas and make them a reality. We gave her complete creative freedom to decorate. What she was able to come up with in the end was truly impressive. It was a feeling of shock and awe for us to come into our ballroom for the first time and be surprised by how everything looked.

Planning a budget-conscious wedding was also a challenge. Bridgewood however, eliminated a lot of that stress for us right from the beginning by offering special discounts for Friday and Sunday dates as well as not charging for the booking of the actual ballroom. They charge a food minimum based on the size of ballroom you want. This was so perfect for us as we knew we would have to plan and pay for catering at any venue we chose. Being able to roll the cost of catering into the cost of the ballroom was so helpful for us and comforting for our checkbooks.

Finally … the food. In the early stages of planning when my wife and I were deciding on what to serve our guests, the thought of a buffet seemed slightly risky. We weren’t sure if the food would be great in a buffet style, if it would food stay warm, how long would it sit out, etc. Much to our delight, we had SO many compliments all night long and for days after our wedding on how delicious the food was. We even had people compliment the buffet because people were able to select from different decadent menu items. In addition, the catering staff was impeccable. They were incredibly polite, quick, quiet and efficient as they worked very hard to keep our guests enjoying their time at Bridgewood. One member of the catering staff even put together a huge bag of leftovers for my wife because they noticed she wasn’t eating much and wanted to make sure she had something to take back to our room with us at the end of the night. I was so appreciative because she’s the ‘hangry’ type.

Our entire experience was as close to perfect as we could have asked for. The entire Bridgewood team came together to help make our day memorable and we are forever grateful. To top things off, we were gifted a beautiful monogrammed cutting board, which we intend to use as a display because it’s far too beautiful to cut on! From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to say, thank you, Bridgewood.
